Michael Moppert aka Sonarpilot’s original productions have always sat between the lanes, an artist unfazed by the constraints of trend or the blueprint of a specific genre, his music has always had a broader appeal and the confidence to stand up on it’s own in terms of style, arrangement and feel. Audibly sitting somewhere between low slung dub and drum and bass, the original mix of Northern Lights seems to skit between the tempos, the classic amen break punctuating a rolling, half time groove.
 
Now in its tenth year of releasing Michael Moppert’s music, Sonarpilot Audio endevours to select dance music’s most interesting current artists for remix production, SPAR023 is no different and we welcome Iceland’s drum and bass leading light, Agzilla to the label to rework Northern Lights.
 
After meeting in Reykjavik through their shared passion for street art, Goldie introduced Agzilla to pioneering London club night Rage and the UKs emerging breakbeat/rave scene. Producing his first music as an early member of Goldie’s infamous Rufige Kru, Agzilla spent the 90s immersed in the scene, running record shops in Iceland, touring the States with Goldie and ultimately bringing the breakbeat science sound to American radio, having relocated there. Returning to Iceland, Agzilla has in recent years built up his RVK DNB events and gravitating back into the studio, he reconnected with Goldie and his Metalheadz label for the release of his first, full artist album in 2019, ‘Cats can hear Ultrasound’.
 
Remixing Northern Lights for Sonarpilot, Agzilla gives us a solid slice of his unique, freestyle drum and bass sound. Those in the know will spot the iconic sounding headz-style changes and riffs punctuating the track’s stable groove, a nod to Agzilla’s past, clearly stitched into his sound.
